Biofuel has become a substitute for conventional fossil fuels in order to meet the increasing need for energy worldwide. The need for sustainable energy solutions has grown as the negative environmental effects of using fossil fuels become more apparent. Biofuels from organic sources like biomass and plant matter, have many benefits, such as lower greenhouse gas emissions, energy security, and financial gains. This review explores the potential of biofuels as a sustainable solution for energy supply in the 21st century. Biofuels are being produced and investigated in a variety of forms, including biodiesel, bioethanol, and biogas. Various techniques such as fermentation, gasification, and transesterification can be employed to produce these fuels. There are distinct qualities and possible uses for every kind of biofuel. However, there are obstacles and restrictions to the broad use of biofuels, nevertheless. One of the main concerns is the competition that food production faces for resources like water and land. For biofuel manufacturing processes to be optimized and become more efficient, technological breakthroughs are required. To ensure the sustainability of biofuel production as a long-term energy source, laws and legislation supporting it must be put into place. To fully realize the promise of biofuel technology and solve the production-related obstacles, further investigation, advancement, and innovation are required. To build a sustainable biofuel sector, scientists, politicians, and industry stakeholders must work together. With its ability to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and save the environment, biofuel holds great promise for addressing the 21st century's increasing energy demands.
