Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the antidiabetic property of Bombax Bouneponzence (BB)leaf extract in diabetic rats.A single injection of  streptozotocin STZ (60 mg/kg) was used to cause diabetes in female rats.  After three days of induction, the diabetic rats were given 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg of bombax bouneponzense leaf extract and 150 mg/kg of metformin orally for 28 days following the development of diabetes. After administering of extract for of 12hours and 28 days,  the reduction of blood glucose level was observed on the treated groups compared to the diabetic untreated group. The area under curve for 12hr and 28 days of the blood glucose level  showed that the group administered with  400 mg/kg  showed the best activity when compared to the other treated groups. The groups  treated with  bombax bouneponzense    extract  showed a decrease in Platelet, ALP, protein, globulin, LDH, urea, creatinine, blood cholesterol, LDL, food intake, water consumption, feacal output, urine and increase in HDL on the treated group when compared to the negative group (diabetic control group.
